so i was watching the movie "The Life of David Gale" the other day... and it has totally reaffirmed my anti-death penalty position.... but what totally irritated me about the movie was how the Governor character quoted the Bible, the Old Testament, Deuteronomy 19:21 which reads:

You must never show pity! Your rule should be life for life, eye for ( Read more... )

i see your points you are making and you've def. given me some things to think about... a couple counter points i wanted to touch upon....

while Christ did say he who is without sin cast the first stone.. we have to remember that Christ is without sin and He Himself chose to not cast any stones.... a point to ponder... because we do strive to be Christ-like....

thank you so much for sharing your views on the matter... and giving me more things to think about...

God bless!

Well, i brong up again, why didnt Christ talk against it? I mean he knew that his followers, Stephen, Paul, John the Baptist, and James were all killed with the death penalty, but he still never spoke out about this. And in the adulterous woman story he never said, "hmmm adultery. thats serious, but she doesn't deserve to die." Instead he knew it was a trap and exposed thier own sin.
If the New Testament is against the death penalty we should see scripture that backs it up.
Genesis 9:6 - "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man."
I think that is pretty clear. God gave us the authority to judge wrong-doers who murder another.
Question: Is God's word perfect? Is God? Can a perfect God change? Can God's Word?

:) God Bless dude!

Im sorry one other thing i forgot. If the death penalty never existed, being against God's will, then we wouldnt be saved. Follow me with this. Christ, although being perfect, died by execution. If it wasn't in place he wouldnt have. (remember by propecy he had to die by crucifiction) So then his blood would have never been shed on the cross and we would still be dead in our sins.
