I feel special... someone decided that they hated me solely based on my livejournal! Someone who, as Meena suggested, may or may not be British! hahaha ( Read more... )

A woman I was talking to thinks that it is easier for a black male to shed the stereotypes associated with black people than for a woman to shed the more deeply accepted stereotypes about women.

Okay, okay, far me it for me to assume, but was this woman white? Personally, I think both (racial/ethnic stereotypes and gender stereotypes] are pretty hard to get rid of, although I'll admit that race issues are a bigger deal than gender issues for me.. maybe because the former intensifies the latter. [asian women as more feminine..]

On top of these lovely articles about various presidential candidates, there's also the Mitt Romney "Is America Ready For a Mormon President?" comments too..

Yes, she was white. Also, it sounds like we are going to have an interesting discussion next class about the relationships between race, culture, and gender. But yeah, I think it all depends on the intersection of stereotypes, as well as other factors like socioeconomic status, education, and whatnot. Always interesting, these social work discussions. Hope things are going well with you. We should talk on the phone sometime...as awesome as livejournal is and all.
