Just remember to explain what you're doing and use lot n' lots of fancy terms.

Sounds like you're being micro-managed. You shouldn't be told how to do your job (assuming you're competent). Rather, you should only be told what the end result should be, and go off and accomplish that anyway you want.

That's tough man. I totally know the feeling.

I think the problem is that you (we) are too nice. Really. We want to do a good job, and please the client, etc. However, this gets taken advantage of....usually not maliciously, but the client feels that they know best about what they're looking for.

I think, from the outset, you have to set clear guidelines and expectations for your client. I need X by this date, and you will receive Y and only Y by this date. The time for revisions is by this date. Revisions can only include A, B, and C. Anything else will be extra.

And you have to be clear about recommendations. If they want object Q to spin around and blink, you have to explain that the audience your site will attract will be savvy and looking specifically for information, not to be entertained with cliche animations, etc.

This is definitely harder than I've made it out to be. Without guidelines though you'll stop running the show. Good luck!
