So, I caught the current Broadway showing of Sweeney Todd last night, and while I didn't think the music was overly exciting (not really something I'd listen to in the car), I was impressed by the play. Musicals normally consist of a group of actors/singers, and another of muscians. But this had no orchestra, and 10 actors, all of which played at ( Read more... )

You can netflix a tv recorded production with Angela Lansbury that's pretty damn good. (I listen to the soundtrack in the car!) but it sounds like you saw a non-standard staging. I would love to see that for sure.

Well, if you already like the soundtrack I'd definatley recommend it. minimalist sets and costumes, but as you can imagine it's pretty neat watching the actors balance their instruments and their performances. I just didn't find most of the music compelling (other than the ballad); not bad, just not compelling.
