I completely sympathize and understand, believe me.
But if you want to keep your account and just do everything possible to control your information, I have some tools.
There's an entry on my journal a few days back with some instructions for an AdBlock filter and some other stuff.
I'm staying for now because it is valuable enough to me to put up with the bullshit. For now. But I have it blocked and privacy tweaked as far as possible.
EDIT: This is important--truly killing your account is VERY difficult. It's buried about five clicks in. The basic thing you do is just a deactivation, and they keep your data "in case you come back." So if you really want it killed, you want to make sure you find out how.
I've already set up the Adblock filter (thank you!) - and should probably repost the info. The next step is culling all extraneous data, so my account is at least minimized.
I think it's better for the moment to keep the account open so I can use it to control my presence there. If/when the time comes to kill the account, I'll do it thoroughly. :)
