For my birthday, John and I went to Morimoto in Napa proper. I've been a big fan of Masaharu Morimoto since he got his start on the original Japanese Iron Chef (which I watched before it was cool, lol). He always seems to have something new up his sleeve and the sheer variety of techniques he displays in his cooking is truly inspiring stuff. :D ( Read more... )

It was spectacular and I whole-heartedly recommend it. :D I am sure you get to eat at awesome places up in Japan fo' realz though. :v :v

I wonder how many people go to Morimoto's and ask for a non-fish omakase... the non-fish sushi is really neat!

I have no idea! But the waiter didn't seem too fazed by our request, so it's probably not unheard of.

As for the non-fish sushi, I really liked the myouga, which I had never even heard of before!
