I think you hit the nail on the head. It has good intentions but can be used for the wrong reasons, just as if they started putting unique RFID chips in all guns so that they can track any gun at any time. This could be done to hunt criminals, track guns in public spaces for safety reasons, find guns used in crimes, etc. Unfortunately, it is the same as the OnStar situation, good intentions but the potential for abuse is too high.
