Yesterday First Parish had a benefit concert for the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, the church where a gunman opened fire during a children’s musical service in July. A very inspirational story, and one that gives me hope. Our not very distant past haunts me though, with those images of changing day camp locations for the safety of the children from the KKK. Have we changed that much, in so short a time? Recent events in UU history make me wonder. I want to believe that humanity is changing, becoming more, well, "human." Although I'm not sure if we can agree that that is a good thing or a bad thing? Perhaps becoming more aware, and therefore more divine? Anyway, thank you for this post. It's given me something to ponder, as I begin trying to decide if our family is joining a new church community. Questions like these have kept me away from organized religion for 2 decades, so it's very cogent right now.
