When I was young I could get a remission of my psoriasis by using over-the-counter topical coal tar products. They were stinky, but they cleared my plaques

I feel for you having to go on mtx :( I was on that but for the 6 or so weeks I was taking it it made me so sick I couldn't eat anything but fruit without throwing up :( I'm taking Humira now and luckily, have no side effects. I take it for psoriatic arthritis though.
About ten years ago or maybe more, I first tried methotrexate, and it worked only if I went to the day hospital and got hot packs with topical meds, along with light treatments. It was very time consuming, though not all that expensive, insurance covered the treatments, but I was unemployed at the time and the gasoline money plus the $2.50/day parking (which the hospital refused to validate for me) got to be too much, so I had to stop. The P crept back, and I couldn't see taking the mtx anymore if it wasn't clearing my skin. So I quit.
I can relate to not having anything work :/ I'm 26 years old and the ONLY thing that works is Humira (the immune system biologics). I was also 90%+ covered and now I'm >10%. It's amazing and yet incredibly stressful. I worry everyday that I'll develop an immunity to this one too and then where will I be? Luckily Stelara has been made available, so at least now I can say I do have a back up plan

I think I know what you mean about just not caring. Something is going to kill me eventually, and I'm 62 years old now, so how much more quality living do I have left? (...as opposed to being warehoused in a nursing home staffed by overworked, resentful people who are making minimum wage, stuck full of tubes, wracked with pain and dementia, and praying for death in my lucid moments.)
When I was young I hoped there would be a cure by now, but if there is it's probably being withheld because the treatment of disease is now so much more profitable than a cure would be.
...I also understand needing to vent. Heh.
Anyway, even if Humira should stop working for you, your response to meds can change as your body changes through aging, and it's entirely possible that your system might grow out of its intolerance of something you once could not take.
One door closes and another one opens. Good luck to you, too.
