making LJ layout elements in 7

Dec 12, 2006 01:14

i'm trying to use PSP7 (and 8 for some elements) to design simple layouts for LJ but i am unsure what size to use. i know the default for most ppl's monitors is 1024x768. does the file in PSP need to be 1024 in length? thanks.

p.s. if there's any layout making help communities, could someone point me to them? i could not find them. thanks.

The size really depends on the layout, but I would definitely recommend not making the width 1024. You have to take in to account the space browsers take up, and this will vary depending on the browser used, the style for Windows or Mac, how wide their scrollbar is... 1024 would most likely get you a horizontal scrollbar. I don't know what kind of layouts you're doing, but I usually make headers to put at the top of S2 styles, and they are typically any size between 500-800 in width, and 300-500 in height, and centered on the page.

oh, and if you check out my lj, my header currently is about 700x400. This way it will fit in all resolutions, since some people do still use 800x600 (I use 1280x800, myself).

I can't think of any offhand, but if you put in an interest search for s1, s2, layouts, stuff like that, you should probably be able to find something. I know there are a bunch of s2 comms that offer tutorials on the coding parts of the layouts, and there's a really great journal out there somewhere that has a bunch of s1 override codes. I think it's howto, but I'm not 100% sure. I tend to use s2 templates, which I get from reversescollide.
