Have you tried looking up calls for submissions for anthologies? If you run a search online, or look in literary magazines, you'd be surprised at how often editors/publishers put out open calls for submissions based on a theme. Admittedly, a lot of them do not offer a great deal of money, but it could be a good way to get started in writing - a step towards being published and getting your name out there as a writer. It's something to think about, if nothing else.
