There's a tourist guide to Atlanta on The Economist's website that says something along the lines of "Atlantans love to talk endlessly about alternate travel routes & weather, so be prepared."
C+I were in Florida this weekend and it was hot and humid. We stayed in all weekend in the AC. I do not miss being outside for 5min, simply standing there, and coming in sweating like a pig. :(
I went outside to water the plants last night at 9:30 or 10pm (it was fulldark), and simply doing that made me come in sweating! It was still 87F out that late. Gah!
Seriously. I never have gotten how giddy Atlantans get when the first 80-degree day comes, like in March or April. Haven't these people lived in this city? Don't they know that they'll get their share of sunlove soon enough?
I guess from what I've heard the recent heat wave has affected virtually the entire eastern seaboard so maybe its not just Atlanta for a change. Still...
Yep, it got up to 97 today in NYC. This in a place where the majority of apartment buildings have no central air. My roommates and I all sweatily pulled our ACs out of storage -- luckily nothing was dropped and no one was injured, other than a bit of melting.
I've got sympathies for you New Yorkers, not least because you have to endure some bout of heat-induced hysteria only to then hear some damned Southerner talk about it from the benefit of his central air'd apartment.
I have to say that I'm honestly surprised how much I love the new Kevin Ayers. I didn't hear very kind things about his last album, and I generally have a phobia when veterans come out with brand new albums. But unlike just about every comeback record I've ever heard, this one truthfully feels like it could have come out right after Bananamour. In fact I think I even like it better than Bananamour! Just hearing him and Bridget St John reunited on that one track made me fall in love all over again...
