My Japan Encyclopedia A-C

Jun 15, 2005 15:04

...so i didn't want to do a chronological "Day X" report on our Japanese trip because it seems like it takes ages to do it all, so instead I thought I'd make it a bit more interesting by doing an encyclopedia-style format--well surprise surprise, it looks like it'll take ages for me to do this too! But I'll go ahead and start it off at least, ( Read more... )

i really wish we could buy chu-hi (shoju and fruit juice and sparkling water--- the canned stuff is like very, very, very good zima if you can imagine) here. i make my own from korean shoju, club soda, and fresh lime/lemon/grapefruit/cherry juice or some mix thereof. its so good and refreshing in the summer!

do you know there is an ATLANTA CRAZY CREPES in ikebukuro? and now there's one on Buford Hwy, near BASKET RABBIT! (the wannabe pakistani baskin robbins).

hmm, i might have to try to make chu-hi myself! as it is i'm sitting on about 7 unopened bottles of shochu at home (once her family found out i liked it, no trip to america is complete without sending us another bottle)...

"atlanta crazy crepes"? now that i gotta see...i bet if you did a man-on-the-street poll you'd be lucky if 30% had ever eaten a crepe before! i did see some UGA buttons for sale in a stand in harajuku once...

and basket rabbit...if there is indeed a store in this city with that name, rest assured i will be in there by the end of this week...

i'm currently reading a book on americans in japan, which has the following sentiment:

"after my first week in japan, i felt i could write a book about the country. a year later, only a magazine article. and after 15 years, one sentence."

i've spent a collective 4 weeks there over the past 3 years, and i'm not even sure i can adequately write an adjective, but i'm glad that some people can tolerate my nonsense! thanks...

the concept of canned whiskey is better than the reality, but maybe that's because there was so much water in it to dilute it (which i've learned is a mandatory practice with japanese scotch & whiskeys) that it came across more like "dasani malt"...nevertheless someone should expand the concept...

Ha, smoove! (and corny!) Wow, that sounds even more taov('ack-ward!') than our spag-fac dinner the weekend before freshman year. Oh, and you know this was coming. were they cute? Oh, you prolly can't answer that.

And ephemera? Look who's using the fancy words! What are you, a freakin' wizard or something?!

of the 3 girls, you've actually met one (the girl who we went to nino's with)--i think all 3 are cute although i didn't get a picture--in yet another complication to the evening, they were all showing off their fancy digital cameras, and here i was with a no-name 35mm that i've had for 10 years so i got self-conscious...that, and i forgot i didn't have a picture of all of them until 5 minutes after we left...

i was originally going to say "various etcetera", congratulating myself on using the word etcetera as a description, but then i realized "ephemera" actually applied and how many times do you get to use that in a sentence?
