I'm still not sure exactly how I'm going to write my Japan entries, but I know how I'm going to start it off at least...Here's a picture I took Saturday as we were driving down a main road in Yokohama headed towards Kamakura:

I totally tried to email you last night to thank you for a little surprise something in my mailbox, only my computer froze up on me, about 10 times, within an hour. I gave up and let fishmael work on it after I went to bed.

Glad to see you back with us and looking forward to more trip photos/stories!

good, i'm batting 1.000 on postcards this year so far - I sent one from Kyoto to my favorite uncle last year, which I worked really hard on in combining Buddhist history & our family tree to find parallels and I was genuinely proud of the work I did, only for it to get lost somewhere over (under?) the pacific...

i'll try to get the stories/photos out faster than i did last year - its just too bad that perhaps my 2 biggests stories (going to a fugu restaurant & bathing at an onsen) have no accompanying photos - well, probably best for the latter...

i didn't know they revered catfish, i just knew about koi. i would probably be lynched if i said this in ATL (or maybe not, maybe the lynching is for people who hate sweet tea only), but maybe the reason why the japanese don't eat catfish is because it just doesn't taste that good. and that's coming from a person who LOVES seafood (although catfish is technically not seafood since it's a freshwater fish).

koi is certainly the highest of the high - i guess "revere" isn't the right word, but "love" is - the same goes for crawfish, which a lot of japanese people keep as pets - when S' brother visited us last year, he got repelled when he saw them on ice at the grocery store - he then developed a perverse desire to try them, so when we went to savannah we visited the crab shack, a local institution of steamed shellfish, but he couldn't bring himself to order it after all...

personally, i share your opinions on catfish, but then again i hate sweet tea & cream corn & everything else on the southern menu except fried chicken, biscuits, and macaroni & cheese, so i'm the village heretic as it is...
