Hi everyone, long time no...see? Read? Post? The times are getting too complicated - we need more cliches! Anyway, we just got back from Japan where we've been since August 6. Time may not allow much, but I'm hoping to do another series of those "Japan diary" things because I had a lot of fun this time around and experienced quite a few things. But ( Read more... )

I guess this means I won't get that letter written in time to be in your return home mailbox.

But welcome back. Thank God records aren't made of fluids, eh? Still, I'm sure that was fun to carry back. Now we need to reviews.

My "Invasion..." showed up a few weeks back (to answer your question) but I've yet to actually watch it. I've yet to actually do much of anything except to call in sick yesterday to finally read and watch movies and wash dishes. That is what sick days are for.

Thanks for doing your part on the war on terror. I feel safer already, just like an itchy butt. It may be painful, but I still have my ass - and you Sir, love America!

Hey, every day I have a return home, just some distances a bit shorter than others...

Thankfully, we packed our suitcases on the light side before heading to Nihon with the intent on loading them down on the way back (which also included some B'z paraphenalia for the missus and some Japanese children's books, so it wasn't as hellish as, say, trying to contain 44 discs in a single carry-on bag like i did some years back in boston - still, hauling 30 discs was substantial enough to justify not having to exercise afterwards...

and yes, I may be a card-carrying america-lover, but should circumstances have proven otherwise i might have had an offspring who felt otherwise...

what does the name Maher Shalal Hash Baz mean anyways? is it a Ash Ra Temple/Hash Jar Tempo Machine Gun Etiquette/Michelle Gun Elephant kind of thing, or does it actually have a story behind it?

http://www.christiananswers.net/dictionary/maher-shalal-hash-baz.html

Meaning: plunder speedeth; spoil hasteth

(Isa. 8:1-3; compare Zeph. 1:14)

a name Isaiah was commanded first to write in large characters on a tablet, and afterwards to give as a symbolical name to a son that was to be born to him (Isa. 8:1, 3), as denoting the sudden attack on Damascus and Syria by the Assyrian army

Considering I actually know the etiology of the name Drive Like Jehu, I shoulda known that. I just thought it was a corruption of "martial law hash buzz"

Glad you're back. I didn't realize you were gone, actually. Which explains why I asked this while you were out:

I'm insanely jealous you saw Maher. I just got that collaboration with Bill Wells and am loving it.

i know how to do nothing with konnyaku except eat it, but the wife will come to your rescue...

i was bummed not to find that maher/wells disc anywhere in japan - all maher had for sale at the show was the recent yik yak reissue and the 2 reiko kudo cds and none of the other fine stores i visited had it, strange enough (although you can still buy "return visit to rock mass" at modern music)...i guess i'll mention this later when i do my show review, but wells was actually in attendance at the show (he, i, and 2 other white guys were the only gaijin there in a crowd of about 50-60 or so) although he merely sat and watched - they did play a collaborative set the next night at a different club, but we were having to pack that night so we missed it...i have some bad pictures i'll post as well...

everybody tells me i lucked out because we got the effects of the typhoon while i was there, so it rained 4 days, dropping the temperature down and the humidity wasn't as sticky - but the last day we were there i was getting dehydrated and listless in the blazing sun, having to load up on every vending machine i could find to keep alive...

i do have to say that one thing japan has going for it (not sure about korea) is that you at least have a breeze going at almost all times, whereas the air is just dead in atlanta - which makes our summer seem more awful, but then in the winter it doesn't make it feel nearly as cold as it does in the far east...
