Name: Komui Lee
Username:
psychic_psych0Alias: Psion
Age: 31 (29 when first brought into the DR)
Mun: Emily (
hlycrpflygappls; AIM is HlyCrpFlyngAppls)
Powers:
Mind-reading, strong telekinesis, very weak mind control, can send thought-messages to people without speaking, can send and deplete "energy", good at communicating with ghosts. He heals about twice as fast as a normal human, and drugs are about 50% effective on him in small doses. He rarely gets sick, and can recover from diseases that are normally incurable.
The most important thing about interacting with Komui: Please tell me all I need to know! If there's something your character is thinking which Komui can and should pick up on, please, please indicate this to me! Character reads minds; mistake-prone mun does not! Also, if there's something you do not want him knowing, or if you don't wish for your character to read his mind at all, it'd be a big help to let me know! I'll try to ask ahead of time, though. :) If you're unsure, don't hesitate to contact me; I don't bite!
Backstory:
Komui led a more or less happy existence as a child, but it all started to crumble when he began hearing people's thoughts, sometime around fourth grade. His sister, Lenalee, was born when he was ten, and by this time, he'd already been from psychologist to psychologist as his worried parents tried to figure out what was wrong with him. He would often get pretty upset at the things he saw people were thinking.
When he was ten, shortly after Lenalee was born, both their parents were killed by an Akuma attack, leaving them orphans. They spent three years at an orphanage together, and Komui attended public middle school. Things were fairly normal, but his powers were getting stronger every day. When he was thirteen, a mysterious government organization got wind of his strange abilities, and he was taken, kicking and screaming, from the orphanage when he found out that Lenalee would not be going with him.
The year and a half he spent in the Black Order's psychiatric ward changed him forever. Unable to accept that he was to be more or less permanently separated from Lenalee, he did all he could to fight the Order's control with his newly developing superpowers. As a result, he was often drugged with sedatives, which kept him calm and suppressed his powers. Days blended strangely together, except for a few painfully sharp memories, the most important of which happened when he was fifteen. Having been let off the sedatives for awhile, he fought fiercely against those trying to restrain him. On impulse, he struck a psychiatric nurse in the throat telekinetically, killing her. He regretted it instantaneously, and submitted weakly to the remaining group of nurses and guards, who quickly sedated him.
Ironically, this incident is partially what caused the Order to bring Lenalee to his side, coupled with the fact that she seemed to be developing some strange abilities of her own. By this time, he'd given up almost all hope of breaking free, and was emotionally a complete mess. He spent the next few years recovering and training, and the "incident" was smoothed over in the interest of keeping Komui's reputation as a hero clean. He was quietly pardoned on the basis of insanity.
He went on his first crime-fighting mission when he was seventeen. Struggling with guilt and nightly reliving the separation from his sister and the murder he committed, Komui found hero work to be his true calling; a way to pay back his debts to society, protect loved ones, and avenge his parents' deaths. He soaked up the admiration of people who he knew would never approve of his inward self had he not been saving their lives, and it became a sort of double-edged sword. He effectively learned to be an actor, becoming both confident from and jaded by his own fame.
Extra Info:
☣Unlike in canon, Komui was born in America, though both of his parents were Chinese immigrants. He can speak and write both Chinese and English fluently.
☣Despite hero work, he's maintained a passion for chemistry and robotics (to many people's dismay), and knows a few things about first-aid-type medicine.
☣Komui has a much more jaded, sarcastic side to him than his canon counterparts. He could be considered a bit more "insane" than normal, and often has a slick air of confidence covering up his inward insecurity, conflict, and compassion. The only people to whom he'll willingly open up are his Bak and Lenalee.
☣Sedatives and depressants still affect his powers negatively, and when he does drink (namely when he's extremely upset), he prefers to do it alone. Needless to say, if an enemy caught him drunk, he'd be at a huge disadvantage.
☣Naturally, he has a very low alcohol tolerance. His powers act as a bit of a buffer for this, but can only hold out for so long because large doses of depressant cancel them out and he reacts to them like a normal human would.
☣He's gay, and shares a very turbulent romantic past with his version of Bak Chan.
☣He hates to kill, but won't hesitate to do it when absolutely necessary, especially when the lives of innocent people are being endangered.
