I was placed into Beginning Private Voice with a different teacher. I feel like I have been slapped in the face. After six years of voice and a year with my teacher here, being placed in Beginner with a teacher who I don't know feels like a horrible insult. And maybe this sounds cocky and bitchy, but it seems wrong to me. Six years. And yes, I accept that I was having problems last year, but anyone who has heard me sing since I've been back knows that my voice IS working this year. Essentially, they just shot down any chance of me making Program, because a beginning voice class is going to be structured around a specific curriculum, and musical theatre is not going to be part of a beginner's curriculum. I know what a beginning voice class is like because I have TAKEN VOICE FOR SIX YEARS. Six years. It's like telling a NYCB company principal that he or she needs to be in a beginning ballet class, learning what a plie is and how to point their toes. It's an insult. And to take someone away from the teacher they had been working with for a year is just wrong. Especially without any warning. Had Melissa said to me, "Look, I don't think that what I am doing is helping you, so I am going to suggest that you consider studying with another teacher," that would have been OK, but to get a letter from the head of the department saying, "Congratulations! You have been selected for Beginner's Private Voice with ---------," That is insulting and cruel. If you couldn't tell from the rant, I'm REALLY pissed.
