Damn photo programs

Yeah, so I'm learning Adobe Photoshop, and have Microsoft Picture it at home, and keep getting pissed with both of them. I want one program that I can do everything with. Not one that does one, and one that does another. Photoshop is awesome on so many levels, but there are a few features that Picture it has, mostly when it comes to cropping, ( Read more... )

I started with PictureIt, and moved over to Paint Shop Pro slowly. PI was very user friendly, and PSP was very intimidating, although now I just adore it and don't even want to upgrade to the new version, LOL.

I also have Photoshop, which I find a little too unfriendly for my taste. My sister, however, likes it quite fine. I guess it's different for everyone.

As far as shuttling files back and forth between PS and PI, the biggest problem will be what format to save in. Both programs have their own "working" file extensions (.psd or .pdd for Photoshop, .mix for PictureIt) which retain all of the layers and layer settings you have without flattening it. Generally, though, these can only be opened in their own programs. So, if you want to fix up/create an image in PS, but crop it in PI, your best bet would be to make the whole image ready to go in PS, flatten it to a .jpg, .png, or .gif and then crop *that* in PI.

Graphics are fun, aren't they? *G*

I think that it speaks to how much I have learned in the past few weeks, to know exactly what you were talking about.

The professor I have is amazing, and can do almost everything with photo shop, including getting it to sit up and bark.

I think the trick with Photoshop is to play and see what happens. Personally, now that I have a better understanding of it, I like it better. The main thing that I like in Picture It is when cropping, you can adjust the line a little, if you goofed, where photoshop just adjust the whole line.

I think I might have a newer version of Picture it, because I can save and open pics in .psd. I'm just not sure how much they get flattened. I'll have to give it a shot once I get my zip drive hooked up.
