A fiver to see Doves live in Oran Mor. It seemed too good to be true - so much so that when I saw it, I had a quick shufty on the interwebs and found discussion threads declaring it a mistake, a hoax and some suggesting rather bizarrely it was a DJ set. Sounds like a horrific set up. I feel bad enough going to the "Carling" or "O2" Academy, but that's really taking it to the next level (or rather, plumbing the depths).
By contrast, went to a free gig by Roddy Hart last night (next to the Bon) and it was in a packed basement in a bar that hasn't really opened yet, so drinks were minimal, the sound was crap, and those same noisy fuckers were at the back. I didn't mind any of those things, though, because they were doing it for free and no one was shoving advertising in my face.
