green cleaning: bring on the mundane

While our usage of household chemicals is fairly low, I'd like to phase it out altogether using a combination of natural products and elbow grease, hence the following list.

I love you for this ;)

I've been on a similar quest myself - these are great!

Bless!

With the amount of books out on this very same topic, I was surprised that none of them seem to test them. I've seen ones replicated that might do more harm than good.

What's your recommendation for limescale on the bathtub or sink?

Where do soda crystals sit on the green scale? I know they're chemically, but they're fairly basic. (No pun intended...)

That, I've got to look out for myself. Soda crystals- an equally good question! Time to bother Lucy Siegel or Anna Shephard :)

Vinegar in the wash also helps keep the colours/black from fading. Isn't the vinegar and newsprint more known as a technique for cleaning mirrors?

Of course, I don't have this problem but one of those drain screens in the tub is essential for catching hair... of course, you still have to regularly clean that screen thing.

Oooh, I never heard about the colour fading one, but it makes sense seeing as vinegar can be used for a mordant for dyeing.. thanks! And for the mirror thing.

Yep, gotta love the wee drain screen things.. although the cries of "Mommy!" coming from it if you leave it too long are.. uh.. I mean, if you were the kind of person who did that, and of course I'm not..

Hair drain? There's no one with enough hair to clog the drain living here at the moment! :P
