i'm not too hopeful about any useful legislation being done, since bush is still there waiting to veto anything he doesn't like or sees as politically damaging. what i'm most excited about though is the oversight. both investigating what happened in the last four years and keeping an eye on the executive branch over the next two years to prevent any more shenanigans from happening. it doesn't have to be a witch hunt, i'm not looking for impeachment proceedings or anything, and i think the democrats will probably take things slower than i'd like due to the need to avoid seeming bent on revenge. but aside from big things like iraq/WMDs, there's tons of little things like the way the medicare prescription drug bill cost was covered up before congress voted on it. plus tons of iraq contractor fraud and profiteering. just the prospect of both houses of congress being actual checks and balances on bush has me giddy.
