There is a black forest triffle that uses the dark chocolate cake and cherry pie filling that looks amazing. I'll try and find a good pic for you if you like.

That's what I was thinking of doing, with vanilla pudding so there will be a good amount of contrast between the stripes.

I think the recipe that I saw used some sort of whipped cream mousse sort of thing.

Was it cream cheese and whipping cream? I've seen those variations. The thing with whipped cream is that it's going to deflate if it gets moved around or handled too much.

Right now the plan is, in order of layers:

Swiss rolls or jelly rolls if I can find them to make spirals at the bottom
dark chocolate cake layer
cherry pie filling
dark chocolate cake layer
chocolate chip cake layer
vanilla pudding layer
chocolate chip cake layer
dark chocolate cake layer
cherry pie filling
dark chocolate cake layer
vanilla pudding
chocolate shavings

If I can't find the swiss rolls, I may end up doing a sort of pinwheel of chocolate/chocolate chip cake. So, there will be a thick layer of vertical stripes at the bottom.
