So, I've done a trial trifle, and although it will be tasty, the composition does not make the exact clean lines that will be necessary for a photo-shoot prop. So, mostly as a note to myself I will need to do this for the photographable prop-trifle

Right now the plan is, in order of layers:
Swiss rolls or jelly rolls if I can find them to make spirals at the bottom
dark chocolate cake layer
cherry pie filling
dark chocolate cake layer
chocolate chip cake layer
vanilla pudding layer
chocolate chip cake layer
dark chocolate cake layer
cherry pie filling
dark chocolate cake layer
vanilla pudding
chocolate shavings
If I can't find the swiss rolls, I may end up doing a sort of pinwheel of chocolate/chocolate chip cake. So, there will be a thick layer of vertical stripes at the bottom.
