So, I'm on a diet

Oct 14, 2006 19:17

I, being 32 and showing it, have decided to go on a diet.

This means very little cheese. This means saying no to free drinks. This means I should participate in more *ehem* calorie burning activities.

The goal is to fit into my uber fabulous size 14UK Burberry gray wool skirt, among other things. When the wardrobe starts to suffer, a diet is in

Very little cheese? Are you sure it's worth it?

Cheese or Burberry...it's a difficult decision.

I take it you're already cutting out sugar and corn syrup and so forth? Of course you could also do the Brillat-Savarin thing and cut carbs...

I've never really been one to eat processed foods or corn syrup. I use unrefined sugar and pretty much only in my morning cup of coffee.

So, beverage wise, I have a couple of glasses of wine a week, 80oz of water a day and 12 oz of coffee a day.

By process of elimination this is the order that I started eliminating fixing things in my diet:

The occasional soda

Taco Bell (unless it's planned for during the day and accounted for calorie/other nutrient wise before the Taco Bell eating occurs, which means 90% of the occasions where I resort to Taco Bell are eliminated).

Tempura (sushi is still okay)

about 1/2 of the non whole grain carbs that I eat (replaced with whole grains)

I'm making myself eat fruit

I'm making myself snack

I'm making myself take breaks at work and walk

I'm eating less than 3 oz of cheese per week

Beyond the eating

I'm working out everyday
I'm getting Rolfed
After the Rolfing, I'm going back to Bikram Yoga
When I can comfortably walk in very high heels again, I am going back to Tango Lessons

Two cents: fiber, and a fair amount of it. It helps raise your metabolism, but it also helps to block some fat calorie absorption.

I'm definitely already on the fiber train.

during the dark months of november and so forth, i often gain a pound or two from a deep desire to dine upon black beers and pastas. last year i came up with an amazing diet plan to shed unwanted weight gain; it is THE SEVEN-WEEK ROYGBIV SYSTEM. each week you must eat only food which corresponds with that particular color in the rainbow, which may or may not relate to chakra balancing. for example:

week one: tomatoes, red lentils, blood pudding, etc
week two: oranges (obviously), butternut squash soup, salmon roe, etc

and so on. use your imagination. week five is particularily difficult, but i have great faith in your intestinal fortitude.

Yes, but when do I get to eat black food?

excellent question! you think of everything. but there is a simple answer: close your eyes.

Ah, but you being colorblind by that logic...what color is your food and how can you possibly follow your own diet?

Now, if you say it is because you know or have been told the color of the food, then closing my eyes does not cause the food to become black. The food continues to remain the same color, because I know that it is a color other than black.
