Recently I have been thinking a lot about  blogging. I have had some discussions with other bloggers and authors; my big question is who are we blogging for? Who is reading ( Read more... )

I think there are a lot of reasons people don't comment. Maybe they don't have anything specific to say, or the topic doesn't resonate, or they don't want to just do a "yeah, I agree with you". *shrug*

As for who we're blogging for I'm not entirely sure. I know to some degree it's "expected" of authors. We're supposed to gain a following and whatnot. Honestly, I'm not sure it works, especially when you don't have a book out there already. (On the flip side, blogging before that happens at least gets you used to the process.)

So, yeah, basically, I don't know, but I didn't want to read and not comment LOL

I think what happened (and this is just an opinion) is the publishing industry decided that blogging should be an integral part of an author platform, back when there were hardly any author's blogging. Agents and editors started recommending it for new authors at conferences and in interviews and never stopped. Word spread and now every single writer feels like they need to be blogging. Every. One. Does it get repetitive? Sure. But for some people that stumble onto these blogs, it's brand new information they've never seen before.

As for why people don't comment, I think it's primarily a comfort issue.

Now. All that said. I read blogs and don't comment unless something strikes my interest. I follow food blogs with lots of photography and discussion of trends. I follow art blogs because avante garde photography inspires my work. I watch Funny Or Die because I love to laugh.

Which ones do you read?
