last night, my niece and i were watching the nova special on hurricane katrina. she asked me, "why does god destroy his creations with hurricanes, tornadoes, and tsunamis?"

my honest answer would have exposed her to a hitherto unknown level of sacrilegious sarcasm, so i kept my mouth shout.
