Water of Life Update

I'm using my Requiem icon because...well, read on.

The characters rolled into Chicago on 3/16/05, the day before St. Patrick's Day, and took up residence in the garage in which they all met. The generator was missing, but it was still cozy enough. Julia called Calogero and asked if he'd found anything about her previous life; he said they should meet tomorrow at the main branch of the library. So they slept.

And dreamed.

In the dream, the characters (sans Marty, as newbis was out for family stuff) were at a club with loud, raucous music. Julia was onstage, basically getting gang-banged. Other people were dripping blood into her mouth. The characters looked about and Jesus saw that the DJ was the same guy that had appeared in Julia's dream way back here. They went to the DJ booth and talked with the guy, but he wasn't very helpful. He did tell them his name - Bob Gantz. They also noticed he had cuts on his arms, before a big light appeared over him and he vanished. The dream turned violent: the people started beating on Julia, and she woke up (taking the others with her) shortly thereafter.

The next morning, the characters grabbed some green beer and funny hats and went to the library. They met Calogero, who showed Julia her obit page: Her body had once belong to Julia Swansea, and she had died of a heroin overdose. She was buried (supposedly) in a potter's field, and there had been no family. She didn't recognize Bob Gantz from the sketch Jesus drew (nor did Calogero). Calogero mentioned that there had been a big flare-up of Azoth about two weeks ago, followed by a fire, and then the Azoth went away.

Jesus, Al and Julia got online at the library and looked for evidence of Bob. Meanwhile, Hank talked with Calogero about Disquiet. Calogero revealed that he did experience it, but he knew what to look for and could resist it (that's also why he never stats near the characters very long). They talked about Disquietism and possible applications for the Silent Book, as well.

Meantime, the other three discovered that Bob Gantz had been reported missing six days ago. He'd been coming home from work, and vanished somewhere along the way. The characters figured they could reach him in dreams, and went back to the RV to try it. Jesus, now a Sentry, used Many Hands Make Light Work (highly damned useful power) to help them all dream together, making the Elpis roll a teamwork action.

In the dream, the characters were in a porno theater. As they watched, a man next to Hank offered him a syringe full of "Solace." Hank accepted (knowing this was a dream) and watched as the mud on his skin crumbled away, leaving flesh. The popcorn actually tasted good. The sex on the screen actually made him respond. And then...it was gone. He saw the man next to him grow fangs, and the man said, "There's more, but it's expensive." The characters noticed the other theater patrons coming off their highs, and growing fangs as well.

Awakening, the characters felt a bit confused - where was Bob? But then they realized that Bob might be awake, and who sleeps during the day? Vampires.

That night, they went to Bob's place of business and Julia activated Tainted Azoth to track vampires. They got on the el (Bob's method of going home) and found one right away - the one from the dream. He introduced himself to Julia as "Duce," and they got off at the next stop. He asked who she was with, and again, she didn't know how to answer. She revealed that she wasn't a vampire, and Duce seemed to realize something, stepped away and pulled out a phone. Hank stopped him in a threatening manner, and Duce simply vanished (gotta love Obfuscate) and ran off (gotta love Celerity).

The throng pressed on, eventually arriving at Bob's home. They broke in and searched the place, finding a box of magazines and photos underneath his bed, all featuring Julia. One of them was even signed.

Significantly creeped out, the characters got back on the el and met another vampire. This one, seeing Julia, motioned to her and sat with her. She introduced herself as Persephone Moore (giving the characters a little chortle, since they also know a "Persephone"). She explained that there had been a creature in Chicago a couple weeks back, overturning cars and basically making a spectacle. From the description, it was a Frankenstein. The vampire said that other "Kindred" had been forced to burn it alive (hence the fire). She asked how long the characters would be staying, and whether they would be going on rampages, too. She also agreed to give Julia some blood (since she was jonesing pretty badly). She knew nothing about Gantz or who might have him (the characters were convinced he was being held captive), but said she'd look into it and meet them the next night.

The Prometheans went home again and Julia dreamed one more time. This time, they were in a darkened room, and Bob was sitting on a mattress. A door opened and someone tossed him a bowl and a razor blade, and he cut himself and bled into the bowl. The characters talked to him, and he saw Julia and said that he must be dead. "I dreamed you," he said, passing out. "I dreamed out." In the background, the characters could hear sex and music, but several of them noticed that there were no female voices...gay porn, then.

Next time, we'll see what Marty has to say about all this.
