It sounds that Satan is attacking you through the spirits of deception and rejection. He deceives you by making you feel that you cannot trust anyone because they will hurt you.

That makes complete sense. Why consider the psychological concept of negative reinforcement when the problem is quite clearly Satan? It must be nice to be so fully ignorant and unambitious about the pursuit knowledge that you can simply blame any problems that you have on some mystical creature that manifests himself anytime something bad happens to you. I wish I could lie to myself so well. Just as a final statement: does one really have to conclude that deception and rejection are spirits, not simply the behavior of a person?

BUT do you know what all this does??? By making you think these things, Satan is taking away your attention FROM GOD to YOURSELF. He's making you idolize yourself, [...] How is Satan (or for that matter, Jaclyn's feelings about this boy) taking her away from God in any way? Your unstated assumption is that any involvement of emotions ( ... )

This is a powerful and amazing thing that I experienced this weekend and it really helped me grow and be able to move past some road blocks.

Perhaps you should review a concept known as a placebo. More specifically the so called "placebo effect". What you have experienced (I'm assuming that the retreat you went on was similar to ones that I attended as an impressionable youth) is a strongly suggestive and (in my humble opinion) dangerous form of brain washing. Such a coarse term, and you'll certainly shrug it off as me attacking you. Nevertheless that is the case. Think about what you're suggesting. You're suggesting that someone can feel better by trusting something else will take care of their problems. Of course that's the case! But it's nothing mystical, and certainly has nothing to do with God other than the fact that his is the persona that is used as a focus.

Satan has a stronghold in you through those emotions, and to be able to move on and fully trust God, you need to get ride of those thoughts satan is deceiving and ( ... )

Some neat verses arizonigirl April 25 2005, 15:57:17 UTC
Jax - today when I was doing my Bible study I read some really neat verses. Job 41:7-42:6 (shows how God is always in control and that when we, like Job, try to control our lives, we are trying to control God...) and Lk 7:11-17 (which shows that God is a God of love and compassion and wants to touch all our lives with His healing power to give us freedom from pain and suffering.) I read the second one at the www.lcms.org under daily devotion - it really touched me, and so I thought it might help you, too. You're in my prayers - please keep me in yours too. I don't know how to act with Jeff - he wants to be "friends" but it seems awkward to me...argh. Boys sure do complicate life!

Technically Sam, just for sole arguments sake, the commandment "Thou shalt have no other god's before me" sums up the sin of self idolizing. Boy I'm glad my family and friends all get along. God bless apologetics.

Are you idolizing yourself by having feelings? I think that's a helluva stretch.

No, feelings are completely natural. They come with intellect, which is what separates us from animals. However, dwelling on yourself and how sorry your life is, though I'll admit to label that "self-idolizing" is a stretch, is no good in anycase. God gives us guidelines to protect us, because he loves us. Anyway it's late and I'm tired. Love you bro, hope you have a good monday!

I'm not saying its good for you to dwell on things, just that defaulting to the opinion that Satan is the cause is premature to say the least.
