The solitary confinement cell block is located beneath the mess hall. Guards tackle ornery mutants and shove them in a freight elevator in the corner of the room. Fugu sits, slurping, watching ( ... )

*sigh*

I sat down in the small diner, relieved to get some rest. It was lucky to find a restaurant in the middle of the desert like this.

You wouldn’t think that someone who could bring pictures into reality would really need to eat. Just bring out some pictures of food and eat it, then again once I stopped concentrating it would disappear.

I smiled at the waitress as she brought out the pancake and eggs I ordered. Who doesn’t like pancakes? The eggs were salty, the sausage a bit too greasy, but they were still filling and that’s all I needed for now. After finishing my meal I opened up my wallet.

Dammit. I’m out of money again.

Looking around to make sure no one was watching I pulled out my small notepad. Inside were several drawings and photos of various amounts of money and currencies.

Hm. A twenty should be more than enough for this one. I really need to stop doing this. Then again, I’ll never see them again. The twenty-dollar bill lifted out of the notepad and came into reality. I carefully laid it down on ( ... )

"I'm 'in' to get somebody out. Call me Logan." His voice was as rough and deep as he looked, his eyes hard.

"Flicker, and if you're in here to break mutants out, then it's good to meet you." Flicker shifted around to sit propped against the bare metal wall near this new and curious inmate. He brought his left hand up, took his index finger in his other hand, and bent it 90 degrees to the side with a quick jerk and a sickening snap. Flicker flinched, but then watched, one eyebrow lifting and his eyes widening as the finger straightened itself and reknit bone right in front of him.

"Oh. I see." Well, that changes things. "So, tell me about this whole, getting mutants out of here thing you've got ( ... )

"That'll be R 3.50." Sin-je fished the change from her jeans pocket and handed it to the old woman, who in turn handed her a small pie.

"Dankie." As she walked away, she peeled back the wax paper, letting the steam roil off into the moist spring air. It was a beautiful sight-- it had been weeks since she'd been to the city, and that had meant no pie. Sin-je, having just recently acquired a kitchen, was only now learning to cook, and John didn't know his head from his arse when it came to Afrikaans cooking.

Sin-je found him sitting on a bench, reading The Sunday Times and looking very serious. She sat beside him, blowing gently on her steaming pie. "We come to the zoo, and you read the papers? You're such a geezer sometimes, you know?" Her teasing grin faded around the edges when he turned worried eyes to her ( ... )
