Law School #4

Dec 04, 2006 15:03

So I got into William and Mary.

"Who cares?"

They offered me instate tuition plus a $10,000 scholarship.

"Ooh, shiny!"

Yea...

Thoughts, anyone?

The LJ was hungry, and occasionally demands feeding.
I am a firm believer that iTunes has cosmic powers.

That being said: I CANNOT MAKE A DECISION ON THIS MATTER AND IT SUCKS BECAUSE IT'S ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT AND OMG I'M NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO FINALS :C

Go to the school with the highest ranking. That's all people really care about when you get a job. It doesn't really matter so much as an undergrad where you go, but law school is a bigger deal. You are going to make a shit-ton of money as a lawyer anyway, so don't worry about loans.

but the schools that i'm applying to all cost upwards of $50,000. And while my parents are more than happy to fill out the need based access forms, they aren't giving me a dime.
I understand that I can pay off loans - but what bank in their right mind is going to *give* me $150,000 in loans? I can only get $18k / yr in student loans. The rest have to be commercial, and I don't have that kind of credit :C

Also: friends over xmas break??!

1) You are going to be making a shit-ton of money, but possibly not right away. A couple of my cousins graduated from law school this year and are having a bitch of a time making ends meet while they pass the bar/find decent jobs. So fewer loans are still better.
That being said,
2) Williamsburg is a city of old folks and tourists. Period. So if you plan on somehow sustaining a social life during this time period, think carefully.

While my cousin told me not to consider the city, because you won't have a social life anyways, William and Mary is far and away the easiest school I applied to. So the one place I *could* have a social life won't really facilitate it, will it?
And I don't know if I could make it through the weekend without knowing that if I get bored, I can go gay clubbing. Honestly.

Hmm. I don't honestly know much about W&M's law school. Any good?

If so, that does seem mighty tempting... but UPenn or Mich is ten times shinier.

It's 27th, which means it's fabulous but not that fabulous. In perspective, UPenn is 6th (but I haven't been accepted yet), Mich is 8th, and Georgetown is 14th.
I mean, money or no money, who in their right mind that wants to practice immigration law turns down Georgetown? Srsly.

Have I mentioned the friend of the family that taught international law at Georgetown for a long time before becoming the Colombian ambassador to India?

Yeah, let me now let loose the floodgates. William and Mary freaks me out. Don't go. They'll force you to wear stockings and whittle for the tourists.
