Well yesterday was as fun as it was long....... :--) . . . .well..almost anyway.
I m going to do a little review...I know its weird as we were playing aswell but still...
We arrived at 12noon for soundcheck we ended up sound checking at around....3:45.....tHE ZEITGEIST fetival is/ was a good idea... only it was for the 1st part very badly organised..or rather the origional well organised plans were completely ignored by at LEaST one band and the soundman...(hmm) More of that ..later.
First on were "Viral lode" . . One man noise act..The music was nice ..if not a little generic ..Unfortunaltly noise acts dont have much to offer live...Its always nice however to see somone like mono no aware of even kiew that either add live instruments and more layers to there music live or just simply go absolutely nuts to the beats and fire off samples 2 seconds late...Unfortunately he had neither..hes obviosly had little experience live...and just instead choose to pretty much just stand still and do his thing....Ill be looking forward to things in the future..and I hope he gets a little more confidence as the music is really actually quite nice....
Next were "Hatte*machin" who were much better than expected...Lots of hard industrial rock beats, crazy guitars and punky/emo? attitude filled vocals!! The set was good but seemed to dip a little in the , middle...the singer stumbled around the stage nearly taking the entirerty of their equipment with him at times much to the distress of the other guys..but overall they were a nice more mainstream industrial metal outfit that I expect we will hear more of sooner or later...
"Evil man in your attic" is an interesting guy...Quiet and so obviosly a music lover in large proportions...His set went on for no less than 15 minutes more than it shoud have done, however the music was an eclectic mix of breaks/ d+b / industrial / house / disco / electronica and hints of noise...He has quite a few tracks that would be great dancefloor fillers in industrial clubs / dance clubs and probably even house and electro nights....Hes recently signed to a lable that is owned by Sony BMG(im not sure of the name) and is releasing an album in august..Im pretty sure we will see this guy around a lot more!!
After that came "Glitch code" .... Nice trippy, dual fronted electronica ...These have Rick from "neon zoo" on vocals as well as a female vocalist...The music itself is nice..only a little slow and dull in places...The female singer was really quite good.. I do thing that perhaps Rick should take a seat further to the back on this one and let her do the main lead vocals as her voice is suited brilliantly to the music...Overall they were very good, especially considering that this was their first live outing....I will be looking forward to see how they do in the future.
Then it was us(3ulogy) We had lots of fun and it was a great 30 minutes....
This is the 3rd time ive seen Neon zoo and I admit I do like them!! They have an interesting sound...The best thing about them is the electronics and beats...It works in a live enviroment better than on cd...as the vocals seem to be less of a forefront ... Overall ..they always please the crowd and usually always have something new to offer...The music is hard to catagorise..but I would say..electro rock? Kinda like later sneaker pimps only with a firmer more industrial sound.
Zeitgeist Zero were a great live band..it certainly isnt the kind of thing I would Normally listen to ..but they were very entertaining and great people...All 3 of them are great performers and make it a very visual experience..They finished on an encore in the form of a cover of Skunk anansie's "twisted" which was just great...they put a great dancey beat to it and the vocals were handed very well!!
Then it was the headliners "Deviant uk" ...Which I missed most of due to drinking and sorting out my equipment and cd's......What I couaght was pretty bad...Im not a fan of the vocal style at all..and the music is sub standard soft? ebm. Although some of the music verged on acceptable the rest fell into the same repetitive cycle each time....That said...it was a nice event ....
The organisation wasnt great, the soundman was stoned and the room was hot..but it was fun.
Also , of course I had my dj set...
Which was slightly shorter than planned due to bands over running and such...but here is my setlist:
Punch inc - kick ass
kiew - dc disk (dd version)
converter asche morgenstern - monster
combichrist - bulletfuck
grendel - soilbleed v3 - request -
aesthetic perfection - I beling to you
Sucide commando - bind torture kill
Hocico - Instincts of perversion
..and thats it.. Accept, thanks to those of you that came down . .and especially to the people that stayed on the dancefloor and gave us your support!! It was great to see so many people into it by the way.. :) (yep..pwnage!)
;-p
