Lorna was in a very good mood. It felt like ages since she'd felt this light, this eager to laugh and smile. Truth be told, she was a little exasperated at herself for that. Still, she wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. Feeling happy was much better than feeling bad.
She knocked politely on the door, then hovered to look in a window. If Magnus was busy she'd just go inside, but he didn't seem to be too terribly preoccupied, so she waited until he opened the door.
Beside the brownies Lorna had promised (a pan for everyone she was related to), Lorna had brought a coffee cake and homemade cherry ice cream. With Alex being around she'd felt much less like working, so she'd taken time off and taught herself how to make some new sweets, partially so she'd have something to do with Alex. Between bouts of reunion sex and worrying about the future.
The light EM field Magnus had placed on the house to alert him to near by people went off, alerting him to Lorna's arrival. He finished what he was doing, and went to the door, realizing she hadn't just let herself in.
Opening the door, he helped her in, looking surprised at all he'd brought. "Lorna. You've been busy."
She grinned at him, leaning up to kiss his cheek. "Extremely. You look good." She wandered in, baked goods floating behind her. once they'd cleared the doorway the pans floated to the kitchen. She turned back to her father, giving him a wide smile. "How was your trip?"
He returns her kiss, holding onto her for a second. "Thank you."
He watched her move things around the house, with a smile, probably more in place to a parent watching a child ride a bike, than just joy to see her.
"It was...relaxing in some ways. Saddening in others. There are people who weren't there this year." They weren't there because they'd died. "We grew up together, it's sad to see them go."
She laughed at the picture of the older people, shaking her head. "That's familiar at least. It seems like mutants don't age at all past a certain point."
She liked to see that he had people who were friendly to him back home. It made him seem less like a lonely old man.
"They've noticed. But..." He shrugged, "when you live in Israel, you don't anger the guy who can throw tanks." It was really just gallows humor, he was joking but only to a point. There were people in Israel who knew 'Doctor Lehnsherr' was also 'Magneto', they just didn't care so long as his campaign stayed out of Israel, which thus far, it had. "I knew they all when they were very small children, during the war. Eli's the oldest of the group, he was almost eleven when the war ended. Ela's the youngest, she was three - her name is actually Helena, but...that was a big name for a little girl and it just stuck."
She nodded, getting the half-serious tone. "I wish people in America were that smart. I'd start throwing tanks around to be able to eat a meal in a restaurant in peace."
She smiled as he talked about his friends, laughing at Helena's nickname. "That's so cute."
"I think it might have something to do with me living in Israel during the Suez Crisis, being a doctor, and being a volunteer in the Israeli Army might have a fair amount to do with it."
He smiled. "She was...quite special. Very traumatized. It took a lot of work to get her to speak to anyone. And me...we were surprised...white hair, blue eyes...sometimes though, she wouldn't sleep if I wasn't there. Couldn't do any tests without me. She took to Eli took, thankfully, or I don't know what would have happened when invasion happened."
