Spike sat in the grotto, drinking his pig's blood and having a smoke.
She knew where he was. She always knew where her Spike was. Drusilla limped into the grotto, hands blackened and charred, smoke still curling up from her chest, and covered in blood and scorch marks. She leaned against a tree and whimpered in pain.
Spike could smell the damage and rushed to her side. "Pet? What happened? Who did this to you?"
"He's gone, Spike." Drusilla looked up at him with tear-streaked eyes. "They took him away again."
She reached out for him, but when her burned fingertips brushed the edge of Spike's jacket, she flinched and hissed in pain.
Spike gently picked up Drusilla and cradled her in his arms.
"Who, luv? Who's been taken away? What did they do to you? I haven't seen you this bad off since Prague."
"They burned me, Spike; they hurt me," wailed Drusilla. "Tried to kill me, like Prague. The student--empty, gone, blank, so very blank."
"Daddy's gone, Spike. He's gone."
Spike suppressed a growl at the mention of Angelus, and carried Drusilla into his flat, gently placing her down on his bed.
"Angelus bolted town, did he? Always knew the ponce couldn't take the heat."
Spike pulled away some of the burnt remains of Dru's clothing and inspected her wounds.
"I thought none of the students knew about what you were. How did they find out? Who told them?"
"No, Angelus is gone, Spike." She stared up at him. "They brought him down wings and a halo."
Drusilla flinched as Spike pulled her clothing off. "Took out a cross and whipped me with it." She screamed as he pulled the clothing off her scorched chest. "Poured holy water all over me."
Wings? Halo?
"Bloody hell."
Spike stalked off to the kitchenette, then returned with a first aid kit and began to clean Drusilla's wounds.
"So Tall, Dark, and Dreary's back, eh? Smashing," he said bitterly. "So this empty fellow? The one who did this to you? How did he know what you are, luv?"
"I hate him," hissed Drusilla, clutching at the covers and shuddering with pain as Spike cleaned her wounds. "I hate him! I hate him! He's not Daddy."
"He was there, in the woods, with a cross." Drusilla shook her head. "He had a pencil and paper, and he was ready for the exam. Nobody told him there'd be a quiz today."
"Shhh. Don't toss, pet. I hate the lug too."
Spike continuted to work on her wounds. "Hell. What did that boy do to you? You've got burns, bullet wounds and stab wound, luv."
"He's going to try to stop us." Drusilla's eyes became unfocused. "Blue fire. Crackling, sharp, pain. We'll put it out, but Angel will try to stop us."
"Crosses and stakes, and holy water blessed by a priest," said Drusilla, staring half-vacantly at Spike. "Pop guns and pretty posies that blossomed with flame deep inside my chest."
"Yeah, well he tried to stop us before, luv. We're still here now, aren't we?"
Spike cleaned out the stab/burn wound where Marty had shot a flare into Dru.
"Hell. You've been burned from the inside out."
Spike gently pulled Drusilla up into a sitting position. "You need this more than I do at the moment."
Taking his fingernail, he dragged it across his neck. Pulling Drusilla into an embrace, he positioned her head against his shoulder, near his neck wound.
"Drink, pet."
"You're not going anywhere, are you?" asked Drusilla. "Not ever?"
She moaned in pain as Spike lifted her up. So long since he'd held her so gently. So long since she'd tasted his blood. It sang in her mouth, down her throat, filled her belly. She put one hand gently on his chest and a few silent tears slipped down her cheeks.
Spike moaned softly as Dru drank from him. He cradled her head in his hand, while supporting her back with his other arm.
"I'm not going anywhere, kitten."
The flow of blood had stopped, and the wound was healing over. "I've missed you so very much, Spike," said Drusilla, looking up at him. Some of her more superficial wounds had healed over, and the skin of her fingers had been covered over with ropy scarring. "For so very long. But they've taken him away, and he tried to kill me, and they're going to suffer."
Spike laid Drusilla back down on the bed. "I've missed you too, pet. You need to rest. We'll take care of them when you're stronger, luv."
He gave Dru an evil grin.
"Then we'll make them all suffer."
