I learned about how cholera works today.

Drinking contaminated water causes us to ingest a bacteria that takes up residence in the lining of our small intestines. This bacteria (vibrio cholerae) secretes a toxin that chemically modifies G-proteins that line our inner cell membranes ( Read more... )

In the past 5 hours, I lost my ID and my volunteer medical card (but not my cell phone, keys, old ID or school ID which were in the same (unzipped) outer backpack pocket), nearly saw a man get smashed to death by an oncoming subway (um, amen for honking), and got officially tired of doing physics problems all over again (no parentheses necessary).

I chipped off a chunk of one of my molars last night. It made an insanely loud noise, and feels very odd to the tongue, let alone the brain.

That's a risk you take by having metal in your mouth, I suppose.

Fortunately, I now have two dentists in the family, and fortunately we're going to be out there for a family lunch tomorrow.

About 175 pages into Les Misérables, a new sub-section called "In the Year 1817" begins. Plot-wise, the reader has just finished reading of Jean Valjean's fall and subsequent salvation, following his interaction with the most wonderful bishop of Digne.
