The napping thing is not going very well today. I just read The No Cry Nap Solution by Elizabeth Pantley. I tried to follow her advice about getting them to not need to nurse to sleep: she says to pop them off the nipple when they are drowsy but awake. Nap 1 at 9 AM, he took about 25 tries in the space of 15 minutes or so. I'm not sure if I ( Read more... )

Ohh, and my little boy is so sweet. My neck/shoulder hurt so bad I started crying at one point. His little face started to wrinkle up like he was going to cry too so I grabbed him for a big hug. And he snuggled in and hugged me back super tight and actually lay his head down on me and relaxed into the hug for a second--he NEVER does that. It made me all melty inside. So I stopped crying and gave him a big smile and he gave me a big smile and then we went and ate some watermelon.

I would have scrapped the not nursing to sleep thing as well.

I get J down whichever way is most peaceful (read: easiest) for him and then transfer him. He hasn't been sleeping as well in the carrier either so if he falls asleep there, I put him in the crib or our bed. He isn't going down as easily in the carrier either so I am taking that to mean that he isn't my little infant anymore and the chest to chest thing simply isn't the soother it was when he was brand new.

Good luck and hope you find a new system that works well soon.

Thank you :)
I just feel like I'm failing him every time I try something that doesn't work out and he ends up in a bad mood. Not to mention wanting to pull my hair out when I look behind me and see a trail of unfinished tasks due to his waking up sooner than I hoped.

Got to keep breathing.

pacifier or thumb. if he'll take it, he can use the pacifier at daycare. He may figure out thumb sucking on his own.

He found his thumb around 3 mo and enjoyed it for about 3 weeks, then forgot it existed. We tried a paci when he was really small and he just kept spitting it out so we gave up. I'd be willing to try it again for daycare though. I'm also going to get him a white noise machine and see if that helps as a sleep cue.

J didn't take a paci until 5+ months.

Now it seriously saves my life.

I went to Target today and got the white noise machine but forgot the pacifier. Thanks for this comment, it gives me hope! I want to help however I can to make this easy on him and his daycare provider.
