I went to the dentist yesterday. I hadn't been in a long time, at least 4 years. Probably more like 6. It wasn't so bad. I have 3 cavities, need 2 new crowns, and am finally going to get an implant for my missing molar. Years ago when I lost the tooth (cracked and then extracted ca. 1999 by a dentist doing a root canal before I knew to go to an ( Read more... )

I read an article before Edith was born that was something like "10 ways you will change once you have a baby," and the one that stood out--the only one I remember now--was "Your dog, which is your baby, will become simply a dog ( ... )

Thanks for commenting about the dogs. It really helps to hear other people feel the same way. Oscar absolutely loves them, and in a year he will be larger and less run-overable, and also less grabby. We made it this far. I know they will be great buds soon and I will be glad they're around again :)
You know, Elbow is microchipped and never runs off like Thyla, so uncollaring him is an option. Or I could just get him a less hazardous one.

dude, bring oscar over some evening and go to the spa already. you don't have to pay me ;) or, better yet, do it on a saturday morning.

i totally understand the dog situation. i felt really disconnected from merlin after sophie got mobile. you really don't have anything to feel bad about, though; newer babies need more attention.

oy, the babysitting replies one gets...i genuinely weep for the future. these young people OBVIOUSLY never took my 'professional communications' course in high school ;) i dare you to reply to the skank and tell her you aren't interviewing for escorts, she must have replied to the wrong add.

if i ever have another baby and it's a boy, i'm naming him gabriel. or raphael. but probably gabriel.

I wish I could babysit for you.

One of my friends who recently had a child gave her dog to her parents. I don't know if that's temporary or not, but either way, the feeling and/or need to not be overwhelmed with mammals post baby-havin' seems normal.

What would you name a girl?

I wish I could borrow your dogs for a year or two until Oscar was old enough!

Just so you know, you have things approximately 10,000x more together than I could possibly imagine. I feel crappy about those things too. I think most mothers of small children do.
