I'm alive!!!

I can't believe it's been almost a year since my last post. I can attribute this to either being extremely busy and social or extremely lazy the past year. I've checked in here and there, but Livejournal doesn't seem to hold my interest that much lately. Perhaps that is to change now... I hope. I'm not sure what inspired me to get back on here, but ( Read more... )

I was on Accutane and I will say it worked _wonders_! Tho I would check its conflict with any psychiatric medications you are taking as their were reports of mental illnesses caused my the use of accutane - in particular a 17 year old flew a plane into a building in Miami and his actions were blamed on the use of the drug.

While on the drug and incurring the painful peeling/dryness I used water-based moisturizers extensively and they absolutely helped.

I will say that I had about ten years of acne free goodness and its only been over the last two years that it has returned - but in a very mild mild form.

Good luck with it!

I'm glad to hear it worked well for you! It makes me so much more optimistic about taking it when I hear positive experiences from people.

I discussed the psych medications I'm taking with my dermatologist-- she was not at all concerned because she feels it's a rare occurence... and people that have either killed themselves (or flew planes into buildings) probably would have done so regardless of Accutane.
However, when I told my psychiatrist... she felt we should "take some precautions" to be on the safe side. I'm going to see her a little more often and Billy and I are going to be crazy alert to any sudden mood changes--- I'm fully prepared!

But! I won't take any flying lessons just in case ;)

I ended up needing a prescription moisturizer when I took it. Aside from that I had no problems, and am really glad I took it.

Shit, I hope I'm not that dry. I've been reading people'e Accutane blogs to see what products people are using to combat dryness, which has been really helpful.
I'm happy to see people are happy with the results. I can't wait to see how my skin looks in 6 months!

Accutane, aka isotetrinoin, the oral form of RetinA. Side effects include - but are not limited to - birth defects, liver problems, sudden onset night blindness, chronic dry skin and unexplained changes in bone density.

All users will need to undergo regular blood test to check for changes in the liver, women must be on birth control.

I took that. I loved the little pregnant woman with a line through her that sealed every pill in the packet.
