Lovely colours. This is the right time of year for meeting brown dogs, but all I met on Friday was six black labradors.
I wish signposts were required to say 'Footpath to X' and not just 'Footpath'. Although the (small) downside of the Scottish right to roam is that basically nothing is signposted ever.
Yes, no autumn landscape is complete without a brown dog.
...nothing is signposted ever...
For me, that would be a huge downside! I would never find my way anywhere were it not for arrows on gateposts providing a helpful hint.
Some of the bridleways here have lovely wooden signposts which say where they are going, and are even marked with a grid reference. But mostly it's just small arrows on gateposts, half-hidden by nettles and ivy.
The beech woods are always fabulous at this time of year. Still, I was quite surprised how much colour there was, bearing in mind we are yet to have a frost.
Autumn is beautiful. The forests are becoming transparent. I hope that today we can go for a walk - the wind has died down. All our deciduous trees have already fallen. I am thinking about winter decor in front of the entrance to the house.

But the evenings are very dark indeed, and one or two houses are already lit up with winter lights.
