I love ponderosa pines. It is amazing how they suddenly replace the Douglas Firs as soon I cross the crest of the Cascade Mountains going east. I checked and they are only native to North America. I'm glad you get to enjoy them, too, at least in the garden. They grow so tall and stately with their beautiful bark.

There are some spectacular Douglas Firs in this country, as there used to be quite a passion for planting them in arboretums as specimen trees in the 19th century.

But I don't think I've ever come across a mature ponderosa pine. This was only a small tree, planted a few years ago.
