I took my kids on their first snowboarding trip yesterday. They all were so cute ("whoa, is THAT snow?! oh my gosh, it IS snow!"). And they all picked it up fast! They're all gonna be pros by the end of the 6th week!

These kids look like us! I mean I can't imagine how I could ever contain and teach them while I look younger than most of them. How do you do it Ms. Tran? Are they pretty respectful?

they are suuuuper respectful (as long as they know you genuinely respect them as well)! i always joke that i feel safe in south central b/c i know my students will back me up. haha.

they just haven't had very many teachers who care, so once they realize that you're not abondoning them (like so many ppl in their lives have) and that you do care, they just soak up everything you have to offer. that's the neat thing about working in the inner-city. earning their trust in the beginning is key. if not, then they can be hell... that's why i'm so embarrassed by how they have treated some of my bad subs.
