...it's been ages since I've posted!

I've been sucked into tumblr lately, because it's a lot lower-commitment fannishly (and I'm not terribly fannishly engaged with anything right now) and because I have been seduced by the pretty pictures, though certain things about it the social justice culture, for one make me go rargh

I really need to finish Suikoden V eventually XD It is so pretty and god yes, Suikoden does amazing female characters. All of them have awesome female characters.

Georg is amazing!!! I adore him to pieces, him and Kyle. He's in um... Suikoden 2 as well ^^

So I have been informed! Mith is a huge Suikonut, and I basically know what happens in all of the games through conversations I've had with her over the years, though there are bits she hasn't spoiled me for. (She's been trying to get me to play the Suikos for years.) And I love Kyle, he's just so over-the-top. I can react really badly to characters of his type sometimes, but with him, I'm just like "lol Kyle we can't take you anywhere, can we."

Really, I just want him and Lyon to do each other's nails while he gives her tips on seducing the Prince.

They are good games. I've got furthest with Suikoden 1 (I am notoriously bad at completing games XD) and adore Flik and Viktor, but 5 is just fantastic. No other game series does the Politicking half as well that I've seen.

Kyle is such a sweetheart, yeah, and I was impressed how they managed to keep him that way without him becoming irritating.

I've heard good things about Flik and Victor! I want to meet them. I think I'll get the opportunity relatively soon.

(Lyon would get SO FLUSTERED, and Kyle would be all "come on, let's work on your sexy walk," and Lyon trips all over herself physically and verbally.)

I am so with you on the awesome women. Suikoden is GREAT for that. Even Suikoden 4, which most people think is not just the suckiest game, but actually SUCKY by any standard, had some really awesome female characters, to the point where I barely ever had any male characters in my party except the main character. Because man, those lady swordfighters were awesome.

And Arshtat and Ferid pinged me from the start, but oh man. Later in the game when everything that went down is explained? That just made it better. (I really should get around to writing the fic I was intending to write, about the tournament where he won her hand. I did research for it and everything! And then got distracted by actually replaying the game instead of writing. :P)

It's so refreshing -- I mean, there are a ton of female characters in JRPGs I adore, but I'm used to adoring them in spite of the ways canon gives them the shaft, so it's wonderful to step into a world where the canon is like "fuck yes these women are awesome, let's give them as many different ways of being awesome as we would for male characters."

(...I do think I'm going to give SuikoIV a pass, though Mith has all but gotten me to swear an oath that I'm playing SuikoIII next.)

Oh GOD, I want Arshtat and Ferid's story so badly. So badly. And if you wrote it, I'd devour it in a heartbeat.

I think you should follow this by going back to 1 and playing 1-2-3 in order, but Mith and I disagree on the awesomeness of 2, as you might have noticed the other night.

Man, I have too many games to play, but this makes me want to replay Suikoden V and refresh myself for whatever you end up writing.

I'm sure I can cajole her into playing 1, it's a very fast game, but I do think III is more up her thematic alley.

Yeah, Suik V is especially good for that. I mean, I remember before I started playing it, some friends had gotten a headstart and were talking about the excellent possibilities for slash with all the hot guys. And yeah, Suikoden's usually good for that too. But I started up V and was like "yaoi what lolol? I just wanna femslash the heck out of this!" And write a larger amount of het than usual, too. Because really, it was the women who drove the interesting dynamics and relationships in this game, not the guys! (Not that I don't love several of the guys too, but so many AWESOME WOMEN.) That's incredibly rare.

Suikoden III is not as amazing in that department, but it does have some good stuff. Including Queen, who now that I'm thinking about it is very much like the Ferid to Geddoe's Arshtat in a way. No wonder I shipped Ferid and Arshtat. ;) And of course Chris (though I thought they were trying too hard to drive home that she's The Special Lady Knight sometimes

So does this mean that, if I ever go to a con again, we can get the Royal Family + entourage together? Because I would love to be either your doting auntie or your perving fiancee.

Name the convention! ;) I've got nothing in the works in the immediate future except maybe still more Tiger & Bunny, and uh, I probably should do something else, at some point. (I already don't know if I'm going to be wearing anything but versions of Kotetsu at Youmacon.) And I know you guys have real lives with schedules that need to be adhered to, whereas my real life right now mostly involves being available during bankers' hours for a few days per week and letting someone know if a deadline interferes with my plans to go out of town. So the usual cons are no problem at all, and I've been tempted to add a few more to the list now that it's not like pulling teeth trying to get time off.

(Seriously, this job. We almost had a launch date in late July, then I was like "Oh, uh, I've got plans to be in Baltimore that weekend. I can get online and take care of it from the hotel if you need me for anything, though." And they went "Nah, let's launch it the week before.")

Depending on what I am up to this summer, Otakon might be viable, and that's always a good con for Suiko costumes that one doesn't bake to high hell in. Or Anime Boston, which I'm fairly sure we are going to but isn't exactly on your agenda.

Possible parties:

Andrea: Lym
Thea: Miakis or Arshtat, depending on what you want to do for her and what she wants to do
Puel: Prince (or Roy)
Me: Gizel, or Sialeeds, probably Sialeeds, unless someone smaller wants to be her, in which case I decide between Kyle, Georg, and Gizel
Linden: Arshtat or Miakis, depending again on the above

As is the case for Suiko, the more the merrier--we can possibly coax J and K into it as well.
