So there's a Hunger Games trailer now.
I'm not going to embed it because I think everyone who cares (and a lot of people who don't) has seen the thing, but I have thoughts on it! Some of these thoughts I've already sorta-expounded-upon on Twitter and in various comment threads, but I might as well gather them here.

I've been optimistic to an admittedly obnoxious point, because I do really want to see them do this well, and what they chose to show--particularly how they chose to show Peeta and Gale, and that so much of it was focused on the "this is a terrifying dystopia"-- makes me feel pretty good about it, so far. The entire selection sequence! I don't know if it's the way they cut the trailer but they made it seem like the desperate, sudden, tragic moment it was in the books and I got shivers. And then the Capitol...so sleek! So impersonal! And so far, the casting is selling me. I know you have reservations on the music, but Elfman sells me on pretty much everything he does, and Rue's whistle was just so...haunting and lovely. I do have apprehensions about Kravitz' Cinna, if only because it looks like they took everything (sets! colors! positioning!) from my headcanon except him. His voice is too...husky? Eh, I'm just being silly I think.
Haymitch is too shiny. Needs more filth.
I shouldn't be this excited. It will only hurt me, but I can't stop being excited.

At the same time, my brain couldn't stop pointing out that this is Hollywood trying to sell a story that is at least partly about humanity's sick obsession with ~spectacle~. LOL
