Thanks, dude. <3 Life is mostly-not-sucking now, though if you ask me in about a month or so I will probably be pulling my hair out from thesis-stress. But at least I'm enjoying myself writingwise, which is more than I could say for a while.
Wish I could join you there (HI BAD GOING TO WORSE WRITING), but I am glad that you're enjoying yourself. I can't play Suikoden due to copious lack of gaming systems beyond the DS. But I am glad you've found a way to be in a good writing place.
Yeah, we've been using our PS2 to play them. I'm pretty sure that you can run the first two games on an emulator (...and most people do, considering how dang expensive they are), and maybe even III and V if you have a good enough computer setup, but it is kind of a tiny tiny cult fandom here in the States, and I'm liking it. Politics and moral complexity and awesome ladies and kickass music, what's not to like?
I hope you reach a place with your writing where it feels fun and brings you joy, whatever form the stories that provide that take. ♥
I LOVED THE TIR-SIDEQUEST SO MUCH IN THE SECOND GAME. Really, really high levels of love.
and OH GOD LUCA BLIGHT. He is one of my favorite villains in an "OH JESUS, you're good at what you do, and what you do isn't nice" way. It's been such a long time since I last replayed any of the games, but I really ought to.
I KNOW RIGHT? I am hard-pressed to pick a favorite part of II thus far because I've been loving it so much, but the Tir-sidequest is up there. Really high up there. And even if I have to run all the way to Gregminster and back to put him in my party, it's so worth it. I also discovered that when you dismiss him, he ACTUALLY TALKS, and that shouldn't have made me as ridiculously excited as it did.
Yes yes yes replay them~ I love talking about how amazing these games are with people. :D (And Luca Blight is a damned effective villain -- for all his monstrousness, he's a lot more human than most villains in the genre.)
Flik/Odessa is the sweetest. And completely heartbreaking, but well, Suikoden. Most of my favorite pairings in Suikoden seem to be the doomed ones.
That's a memorable battle! You're right- Luca doesn't have to transform or anything. I appreciate that.
I know that in the last dungeon of II I had Tir in my party and he ended up speaking one line. It seemed so dramatic (I was quite thrilled).
Seeing how many prompts you and Mith picked up... It is going to be a very good March. XD Just reading your comments about the prompts you chose is entertaining.
I have to say, I've developed a certain appreciation for Luca Blight. More importantly, Mith has. :D :D :D I win~
I feel you there! I think all Tir actually said to Riou was "Take care," but that was the first time he'd ever talked ever and I had a most undignified reaction (and then decided that Riou spent the rest of the day waltzing around the castle and going "he SPOKE to me...")
God, I hope I can actually get through them. *facepalm* I haven't tried to write this much in ages. I think I just need to keep telling myself that each story doesn't have to be a novel, and set firm less-than-2k caps on most of the fics.
If you get through half of them, I still think it'll be pretty awesome! Yeah, I always feel like I have some internal mark of 'must be at least such-and-such length' (I think I've got an internal 1,000 word minimum or something these days XD;) when I pick up prompts from some community. If you can convince yourself to keep the scale small, I'm sure you can manage it! Good luck!
