Complaint to Scotrail

Jan 11, 2010 13:51

Normally I can understand when trains etc don't run on time or are cancelled, like everything in life it happens from time to time.

However, today took the piss a bit so felt I had to complain. What you think?;

Sir/Madam,

I am writing to complain about the service I received this morning while travelling from Greenock to Glasgow.

I arrived at Drumfrochar station at approximately 5 to 8 to travel on the 8.04. Only at 10 past 8 was an announcement made that this train was not running and a planned replacement bus would also not be running.

This resulted in walking - in the icy conditions - to Greenock West. Here it was noted on the screen at the ticket office that there was a reduced service. The next train scheduled on this was the 8.42. This allowed me 20 minutes in which time I left the station to get some things at a nearby shop, while my younger brother got a coffee in the small coffee shop within the station.

It was during this time that the train that was not timetabled, but not showing on the information boards, arrived. As my brother was upstairs in the station, and I was outside, we missed this train also. The 8.42 arrived on time. I eventually got in to work at 9.50, 50 minutes later than I am supposed to begin my working day.

I understand the weather has had a major impact in the recent weeks and have accepted delays will occur and have occured. But the complaints that have arisen from today could have been avoid;

1 - How late it took to announce the train being cancelled at Drumfrochar is unnacceptable
2 - Because of how late this delay was I missed the 8.14 at Greenock West. This could have easily have been made if the annoucement was done before the time the train was due at Drumfrochar as the stations are a 10 minute walk apart
3 - The fact that the station boards at Greenock West were incorrect with what was actually running on the line. Due to following this information I missed - through no fault of my own - the 8.30 train, pushing my delay even further.

The result of all of this was that rather than getting in to Glasgow Central at 08.44 - as I normally would - I did not get in until at least 09.28, but I beleive the clock in the station was closer to 9.35 when I allighted.

I use First Scotrail at least 6 times a week as part of my journeys and believe that keeping the passengers - especially ones like myself who spend somewhere in the region of £1300 a year at least using your services - should be paramount when trains are disrupted. This did not happen twice today and simply is not good enough.
