Just gave my new CDs a good listen. Results were, predictably, mixed.

I think maybe I actually like this Liz Phair album LESS than the last one. I liked about half of the last one and at least you could sort of sing along and dance to the 'pop' tracks. Somebody's Miracle is just boring. Like, I wanted it to be over so I could move on to something ( Read more... )

I'm solidly anti-trafficking, but this is a odd way to solicit support.

Ooo, you should send me the songs you have!

I also think Liz should quit singing songs that are high and where the focus is on her voice. The fact is, she doesn't have a great voice. When she used to sing low or super falsetto, she had an interesting voice, but on these songs, she sort of sounds like Sheryl Crow if Sheryl Crow wasn't a very good singer.

The only stuff by Liz Phair that I've listened to is her self-titled album.
If you get a chance, you should try to listen to some of her earlier stuff. That album is not even close to representative of the Liz Phair I fell in love with ten years ago (although the second half is a little closer). I actually like a lot of her really early stuff, which is called The Girlysound Recordings, as well as a lot of her unreleased songs. I swear, she records a shitload of songs and then says, "Hmmm...which of these are the worst? Let's put those on the album and toss the rest." Thankfully in the beautiful internet era we live in, they don't stay tossed for long.

Well, at least now the kids in my high school know her name....which is sorta what she wanted, right?I guess it is, but I just don't get it. Why does she care?? And the thing that really rankles me is that there are mainstream bands that don't suck. Her plan for going mainstream was basically to dumb down her lyrics and make all of her melodies sound sort of the same. I have to believe ( ... )
