Is That A Pomelo On Your Head Or Are You Just Happy To See Me?

I love Taiwanese public holidays. And not just cos' they're a day off work. Tomorrow is Moon Festival, also, I'm gathering, known as Autumn Festival. Which is in itself an odd choice of name, as they learn American Engrish here, so autumn is a foreign concept to most Taiwanarnians. Say 'fall' and suddenly the stark flourescent light of recognition ( Read more... )

I've been eating mooncakes for the last couple of weeks. My favorite is lotus seed w/egg yolk or rose hip w/egg yolk.

Wow! Didn't know you could even get those flavours. I keep being offered bean ones, which I don't like. *sob*

I don't like bean ones either. Actually, it's rare for me to see the red bean flavor over here in the States. I usually see date ones.

If I get the story right; people were milling around, melting away happily with ten suns in the sky until the Emperor, fed up with the air-conditioning bill over July and August, asked some chap with a bow and arrow to shoot down some of the huge atomic balls of fire. All is well until his moisened bint of a wife steals the elixir of immortality he was given, only to find out that the Emperor had accidentally handed over the Elixir of One-Way-Wings-to-The-Moon. Now all she has to content herself with up there is a rabbit-shaped vibrator.

Now to just work out where the pomelo hats and barbeques work into it...

Something like that, yes...love the bit about the air-conditioning. Am gonna use it, if you don't mind.
As for the pomelos, my boss handed boxes of pomelos out this week, so I had to schlepp one home from Bancio. During the 5-day breal, I fully intend to unearth the mysteries of pomeloness. I shall start by peeling them all and attack random strangers with pomelo peel hatness.
If I feel adventurous, I might even eat one.

There are no pomelos in Australia, although I have seen a bag full of peels in my classroom- I suspect I am missing out on some big pomelo hat party as we speak.

Yay! Mel you bloggedly commented. Yay!
By the smells outside I suspect that mostly what you're missing out on is hordes of Taiwanese barbequing on the sidewalk. As Nic pointed out, what is it with the Taiwanese and burning things on the side of the road?!?!

I got a few different versions, but have sussed out the basic one. What I still can't get is the pomelo hats, but apparently neither can the Taiwanese. How's Slovakia?

Cute and modest??!?! A lethal combination that would fell the final sun, still blazing its way up in the heavens above. Good story though. Someone should sell the rights to Dreamworks so they can make a full-length animated feature film out of it.
