there has been a lot of rad high-school student activism about this and also tons of the teachers, parents, etc. are freaking out. racism is playing a pretty huge part in this ban and in the language surrounding it, but of course the media is not addressing this at all. basically the halifax school board has been so plagued by so many crazy issues the last two years (i won't even get into it), something like this was bound to happen.
some students tried organizing a city-wide dance but by all accounts it was going to suck and the posters did look totally shitty. this town still has a way better all-ages scene than most cities, though, and as always, the kids are alright. this very moment i am at the library and a month ago here some high-school kids put on a presentation about how their community is getting marginalized. fuck yeah!
