You know, despite years of watching him on television, I don't think I ever saw a Bob Hope movie. I should rectify that.

Would you say that My Favorite Spy is a 'classic' Hope film, or should I go for a buddy flick?

Actually, I watched "My Favorite Spy" under the mistaken impression it was "My Favorite Blonde," a spy comedy from about ten years earlier, in which Hope plays a shipboard entertainer with a dancing penguin who gets mixed up with spies. I still have to dig that one out, it's supposed to be one of his best. Definitely try any of the early "Road" pictures )Morocco, Utopia, Bali), very cartoony comedy aesthetic there. I recall "The Princess and the Pirate", where Hope plays a coward who has to pose as a daring pirate (sense a trend?) as being pretty good. Avoid anything after 1960.
