His lover finally closed his eyes.

He looked up as the first rays of sunlight lit the city of Japan.

It was a good day to start a sin.

---

Murder, he thinks, are nasty business. There was something about someone you know just dying out of the blue that scares people. He supposes that it is because it is only when a person dies, will his friends or co-workers learn how he lived. Lately, it is slowly becoming apparent to everyone how Kazuya Kamenashi lived.

Alone.

The word itself doesn’t exactly frighten him; rather, he found it sad. It was the loneliest thing in the world to die alone, with no one beside you to offer you any sort of comfort. To leave the world knowing that nobody was watching, that no one knew or even cared. He carefully placed the white rose on top of his friend’s coffin.

Kame must have died lonely.

The whispers of his co-workers reached his ears.

“He was strangled?”

“No! It was suicide!”

“But there was no one! No evidence of any kind!”

“The question is why?!”

He felt someone touch his left hand; he gave his best friend a small smile. “Hey.”

“Hey.” Yamapi replied. “Will you be okay?”

Toma let out the breath he was holding, “I think so. Jin?”

His best friend clasped their hands together and tugged him towards the back of the room, “He’s…not coping well.” Pi told him quietly, eyeing the person sitting alone in the back sofa.

The older of the two walked in front of Jin and crouched in front of him. “Bakanishi.. You need to pull yourself together.” He touched the guy’s face. How strange that Jin suddenly looked young and vulnerable. “Kame won’t like seeing you like this. He’ll tell you that you’re being childish again.”

A lone tear fell from Jin’s eyes, he faced Yamapi, “Pi.” He begged, “He’s not dead! He’s not dead! He’s only sleeping isn’t he? This is a dream and I’ll wake up? Wake me up!” He grabbed Yamapi’s waist and buried his face on the guys’ stomach. “Please wake me up! Wake me up and tell me that Kame’s not gone. He’s not gone!” Jin whimpered pitifully. “He’s not dead. He’s not.”

Yamapi wiped his own tears then wrapped his arms around his friend’s trembling shoulders, “Jin. He’s gone. You have to let him go. You have to move on. Your group’s relying on you now.” he stroked Jin’s hair and watched the TTUN members. Ueda was comforting a crying Nakamaru while Taguchi and Koki sat side by side looking lost.

Toma sat on the couch beside Jin and observed. It was late and aside from Kame’s family and band members, only a few people were around. He saw Ryo giving Tegoshi a drink while Koyama, Massu and Shige were saying their goodbyes and condolences to the deceased’s parents. On the other side of the room were a few of Kame’s old friends paying their respects. He wondered what they thought of Kame. From the looks of it, they looked uncomfortable to be there.

Beside him, he felt the couch dip as Yamapi sat and cradled a spent Jin. He raised his eyebrow.

“I guess he’s exhausted. He did spend the day hiding his emotions because of the media. It’s about time he let himself go.”

“Do you believe it?” He asked his best friend.

Yamapi looked at him calmly, “Believe what?”

“Don’t feign ignorance.”

“I don’t know. The company has been very quiet about this. You know we can’t talk about it. Our managers may kill us. Besides, there was no evidence of murder, at least, that’s what they say.”

Toma sighed, “I don’t know what to think. He died alone, in his sleep, they say it’s suicide but the police interviewed all of us. What does that mean? They must suspect foul play.”

“I heard that it was poison. But why would they keep it? And why Kame?”

“I don’t know. But something isn’t right. The media reported that it was stress and exhaustion which lead him to end his life.”

Pi gave a sad smile, “It could be you know.”

“Do you know that feeling? That something bad is about to happen? Like we are all waiting for something. I can’t shake it Pi, I feel as if I’m walking on eggshells and every time I step on one, it’s like I’m one step closer to evil.” Toma waved his hands as he spoke, “I know Kame isn’t stressed, I talked to him just last week and he told me that he had never felt better in his life. That he finally decided to talk to Jin and work on what their problem was. Why would he suddenly die? He was in perfect health and state of mind and you know it!”

Akanishi suddenly spoke. “What? He was going to talk to me?” he looked hopefully at Toma. “About what?”

“You mean he didn’t talk to you yet?” Yamapi asked as he stood and stretched.

“No. We haven’t talked normally since I returned from LA, unless it’s work related.”

Toma eyed both his friends, “I don’t know about what specifically. But more importantly, we need to go home. The funeral is at 7 AM and you both look like you’re about to collapse from exhaustion.” He signaled Ryo, “Wanna come with us?” he mouthed.

Ryo shook his head, gestured at Tegoshi talking to Koki.

Yamapi nodded. “Take care of the rest.” He jerked his head at the remaining TTUN.

---

Yamapi slid inside the driver’s seat and opened the locks while Toma helped Jin inside. The guy was slowly becoming helpless and Pi didn’t know what to do. He stared ahead and wondered why he was feeling uneasy ever since he heard the news of Kame’s death. It had been a shock to both him and Jin. They were at the NEWS dressing room discussing about their drama photo shoot when Koyama burst inside crying, declaring that Kame was dead. They all thought it was a joke but when Koyama didn’t stop and Ryo entered after him looking grim. Yamapi couldn’t help but go into shock. Jin ran to his dressing room. After that there was chaos until JE called an emergency meeting and confirmed that yes, Kamenashi Kazuya passed away at 4:13AM and that everyone will not be working today and instead will be interviewed by the police. The entire matter was handled efficiently and business-like. They are not to talk about the death and will certainly not talk about murder. Kame committed suicide. He was not murdered.

A hand tugged his shirt, “Pi, you look lost. Do you want me to drive?” Toma asked from beside him.

“No. Thanks, I’ll feel calmer when I have something to do.” He eyed Jin in the rearview mirror. “Do you want to eat or something?”

“It’s my fault.” Jin said quietly, “That’s why he killed himself.”

Pi grimaced, “Don’t be stupid Bakanishi.” He glanced at Toma who was staring at the passing buildings silently, “It’s weird isn’t it? I didn’t know that Kame was a loner. I did not even see one girl in the wake. Didn’t he have a girlfriend? His friends looked like they forced themselves to be there! I know he likes to work but to have no social life apart from drinking is..”

“Sad?” Toma supplied helpfully.

Jin gave a quiet laugh, “I’m his best friend. At least, I used to be. I used to know everything about him.” He said as he stared at his hands, wringing them. “What food he liked, his favorite shirt. His preferred scent, even his shoe size.”

“What changed?” Toma faced him.

Jin shrugged, “We slept together.”

Silence ensued as Yamapi parked the car in the lot of an open fast food chain in the city. He killed the engine and stepped out of the car. The two followed him outside and Yamapi faced Jin. “What?”

“On the night I returned from LA, we slept together.”

Toma opened his mouth, “Were you--“

“No. Not drunk.” He answered, “Yes, slept like fuck.” Before Yamapi can open his mouth.

“I see…then why…”

“According to him, he wasn’t gay.”

“Are you?”

Jin looked Yamapi in the eye. “I loved him.” He looked just about ready to crumble. “Love him still.”

Yamapi hugged him, “I’m sorry Bakanishi. I’m sorry it didn’t work out.”

Toma lit a cigarette and offered them both the box. “I’m sure he loved you too. That’s probably what he was referring to when I last talked to him.”

“Kame must have died lonely.” Jin whispered against Yamapi’s neck. “He shouldn’t have to.”

Toma shuddered. That was exactly what he thought earlier.

---

“Have you seen Ryo?” Yamapi asked his band mates. The funeral was over and Ryo was nowhere to be found.

Tegoshi gave him a guilty look, “We went home at around 4 in the morning, and he dropped me off my house before he went to his apartment. He must have overslept. I’m sorry Yamashita-kun.”

Yamapi gave his youngest group mate a stern look before ruffling his hair, “That’s alright.” He eyed the rest of his group, everyone looked haggard. Even Massu didn’t look energetic.

“I can’t believe he’s gone.” Koyama sobbed in Shige’s shoulder. “He was a good friend.”

Shige wrapped an arm around Kei. Yamapi sighed.

“Everyone, let’s get breakfast and invade to Ryo’s apartment okay? My treat.” He said and secretly smirked when he saw the beginnings of Massu’s usual sunshiny smile. “Tegoshi and Massu can ride with me. I’ll see you two there.” He nodded at Koyama and Shige before walking back his car. He surveyed the gravesite one last time. Jin was with his band mates and Toma; he should be all right for now.

---

“Why is he not answering?” Koyama asked aloud, ringing the doorbell for God knows how many times.

Shige rolled his eyes. “I suppose he’s in deep sleep. It’s barely 8 Kei, the guy probably slept at 5 in the morning.” He acknowledged the new comers, “He’s still asleep.”

Tegoshi knocked. “Ne, Ryo-tan! Wake up! We brought you breakfast!”

Massu carried the food as Yamapi fished his pockets.

“Tada! I have his keys!” The rest of NEWS took a step back while he inserted the key and opened the lock. “Ryo-chaaaaaaaan!” he called out.

They entered and stared shock.

Massu dropped the food.

There, in the middle of the apartment, was Nishikido Ryo’s decapitated head.
