Давеча мой китайский аспирант потчевал нас тысячелетними яйцами.
Тысячелетние яйца. Подумать только, курицы, их снесшие возможно бегали по дорогам в эпоху пяти династий и десяти царств...

I don't know if you know english, but, I stumbled upon this using the Livejournal Picture generator (http://www.toothpastefordinner.com/livejournal-pictures.php) and saw the century egg broken open. I am currently living in Korean and have five of them sitting in my pantry that I've been afraid of opening.

They are quite tasty... not for everyone though, one of my friends refused to try it.
The white is tasteless but provides a very chewy texture and the yoke is pungent in flavor... tasting somewhat like a savory, earthy version of a cream cheese.
My Chinese friend served it with a simple sauce of minced ginger, vinegar, soy sauce, rice wine, and pinch of sugar.
Don't wait century to try them! ;)

Википедия пишет, что иногда для ускореня процесса они используют оксиды свинца или цинка. Успокаивает слегка это слово "иногда" :)
