I had an idea in my head for today's picture, but I wound up going for a walk in the park with my aunt and her puppy, and I decided to bring a doll along just in case I saw a photo-op there instead. I could not be happier with how things turned out.
I took Cora along, since she's portable and is the only Sad Sally who'd had yet to be featured so far this month. I took several pictures in several different areas of the park, but I knew when I saw this one, which was actually the second one I took, that this was it.
To me, this picture just captures the essence of an October afternoon. These are the kinds of things I'd look forward to as a kid in October. I wasn't able to go out and do things on my own, so I lived for the Saturday afternoons where my father would say he felt like going for a walk in the woods. There's just this feeling in the air and I feel it 100% when I look at this picture. It actually reminds me quite a bit of one very distinct afternoon when I was little, where we were headed to this very same park but stopped at the nearby grocery store first, to pick up some snacks. Of course I ran right to their seasonal aisle, and I found this little beanbag plush scarecrow, with almost a neon-y color scheme, and begged my mom until she bought it for me. I then ran through this weird little tunnel the store had made out of Coca Cola can packaging, afraid to look at the walls because of a cardboad cutout spider on the one side. I then remember going to the park, sitting in the parking lot eating these cheese wedges my father had bought, looking out at the foliage and the water in the distance, all while being so excited about my new scarecrow friend. I believe I even took him on the walk with me when we finally got out of the car, up the same trail where this picture was taken.
The whole point of the October Pic-of-the-Day Challenge for me has always been about capturing the feeling that October has always given me, and this picture probably makes me feel that way the most of any I've ever taken. I was just sort of randomly snapping away by anything that looked autumn like while we were there; this honestly shocked me when I saw it.
